Butterflies and moths of the Meadow
During the warmer months there are a number of butterfly species which frequent the meadows. These include the common species such as Meadow Brown, Large White, small white and Small Tortoiseshell. There are also some less common species which occur such as the Marbled white and Common Blue. The buddleia bushes attract red admiral and peacock and comma. In recent time we have seen that the rare Brown Hairstreak has visited the meadow.
During June and July, a few Scarlet Tiger moths may be seen around the Meadow.
Regular surveys of Middle Street Meadow butterfly populations have been taken through the season over a number of years. The results of these surveys can be seen by clicking the Butterfly records link below.
